Nokia Support Discussions - Improving battery like of Nokia N97 - http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discuss...
"Just take these precautions - Features that use Bluetooth technology, or allowing such features to run in the background while using other features, increase the demand on battery power. Turn Bluetooth technology off when you do not need it.   Features that use Wireless LAN (WLAN), or allowing such features to run in the background while using other features, increase the demand on battery power. WLAN on your Nokia device switches off when you are not trying to connect, not connected to an access point, or not scanning for available networks. To further reduce battery consumption, you can specify that your device does not scan, or scans less often, for available networks in the background.  If you have set Packet data connection to When available in connection settings, and there is no packet data coverage (GPRS), the device periodically tries to establish a packet data connection. To prolong the operating time of your device, select Packet data connection > When needed.  The Maps application downloads new map information when you scroll to new areas on the map, which increases the demand on battery power. You can prevent the automatic download of new maps.  If the signal strength of the cellular network varies much in your area, your device must scan for the available network repeatedly. This increases the demand on battery power. If the Network mode is set to dual mode in the network settings, the device searches for the UMTS network. To use only the GSM network, select Network mode > GSM.  The backlight of the display increases the demand on battery power. In the display settings, you can change the time-out after which the backlight is switched off, and adjust the light sensor that observes lighting conditions and adjusts the display brightness.  Leaving applications running in the background increases the demand on battery power. Close application you do not use." - Dan Smith

Has anyone managed to get Windows Live Messenger working on the Nokia N97 (Three network). Three give you free use of Messenger included in your data allowance but it seems you need to install their own version of the software. Every time I tried to download and install it through Planet 3, it results in an error message re: JAD/JAR mismatch.
Can anyone help Dan? - Kol Tregaskes
It seems that it's a common problem with the N97 on Three. Three support couldn't help so I ended up installing Nimbuzz instead. It might not have inclusive data like Messenger but instant messaging doesn't exactly use lots of data anyway! Nimbuzz works really well. - Dan Smith

Does anyone have the JAD JAR files for Windows Live Messenger as provided in Planet 3 (three network) for the N97? I can't get them downloaded using planet 3 and installing the files direct might work.

Having problems installing WIndows Live Messenger on my Nokia N97 (Three network). I've tried to download it through Planet 3 but it didn't work. Anyone have a solution? I believe Three have a version branded to their network to allow free use of Messenger.

Official Google Reader Blog: A flurry of features for feed readers - http://googlereader.blogspot.com/2009...
"Since our last big launch, we've been thinking about ways to help our users better share, discover, and consume content in Reader. Today, I'm happy to announce several new features that we hope will further improve the way you use Reader. Send to... We've made it easier to share posts you like to Blogger, Twitter, Facebook, and more, with our new "Send to" feature. (Incidentally, Blogger is celebrating its tenth birthday this month, and we're hoping our friends there will like this little birthday present.) Just head over to the settings page, and enable the services you want to use. If your favorite service isn't listed (and you're feeling extra geeky), you can create your own "Send to" link with a URL template. To share an item on one of your sites, simply click the "Send to" button and choose your service. If you're into keyboard shortcuts, "shift-t" will do the same. Feeds from people you follow When we added following, we tried to make it easier to find and follow people who share similar interests. Now we've gone even further, and made it possible for you to subscribe directly to the blogs, photos, or Twitter updates that anyone you're following has included on their Google profile. To quickly subscribe to these sites, click the "From people you follow" tab on the "Browse for stuff" page. More control for mark all as read" - Dan Smith

What Facebook gains from buying FriendFeed | Business | guardian.co.uk - http://www.guardian.co.uk/busines...
"Facebook is reckoned to have spent around $50m ($15m in cash and the rest in its own stock) acquiring FriendFeed, a social networking site that employs a team of 12 people, of whom eight are former Google staff. Although FriendFeed's users number about 250,000 – a minnow compared with Facebook's 250 million – some had thought it offered a path through the perplexing proliferation of such sites: integrating on a single page whatever you did or posted on Facebook, Twitter or dozens of other sites, and creating a "feed" like Facebook's personal "wall" for each user. But the real key was the team behind it: Paul Buchheit, Bret Taylor, Sanjeev Singh and Jim Norris left Google in mid-2007, set up FriendFeed in October and made it public in February 2008. They raised $15m venture capital, making Monday, when the deal was done, a fairly successful payday for investors. The founders' track record at Google is impressive and explains why Zuckerberg was keen to get their expertise on board. Buchheit, the 23rd employee at Google, came up with its "Don't be evil" motto. He also developed the prototype of its lucrative AdSense program while developing the Gmail webmail service. Singh worked on Gmail and the Google Search Appliance for companies while Taylor was group product manager for development of Google Maps. The challenge for Facebook is to stay ahead of Google. To do that, its founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg knows that he has both to limit Google's access to Facebook's content – because letting it index all of Facebook's millions of pages would simply give up advertising revenue to the search giant – while making Facebook easier to navigate and search than it is now. And he needs to find ways to serve more relevant adverts, so that he can keep bringing in the money to keep expanding the site. The FriendFeed team will in effect become Facebook's research team, trying to find ways to implement that improved search and pull people who would otherwise be using external networks – particularly Twitter – on to Facebook. Zuckerberg wants Facebook to be more than a place to talk to your friends: ultimately, he wants it to be an internet in itself where his company knows what is going on all the time." - Dan Smith
Microsoft Ordered to Stop Selling Word - word - Lifehacker - http://lifehacker.com/5335753...
"Finding that Microsoft had violated a patent on XML usage owned by i4i of Toronto, a Texas judge ordered Microsoft to stop selling any Word products within 60 days that use XML coding in any way—which is pretty much all of them at the moment. Microsoft plans to appeal the injunction and $290 million in damages, and likely won't lose the ability to sell its flagship product. Still, it's not exactly great timing for a day when Microsoft planned to announce Office availability on Nokia phones." - Dan Smith
Download Google Chrome 4.0 (Windows/Mac/Linux) | About Online Tips - http://www.aboutonlinetips.com/google-...
"Google Chrome 4 has been released in the buildbot directory and is available for download for Windows, Linux and Max OS. After installing Google Chrome 4.0 from Buildbot’s snapshots, I checked Chromium’s about screen. Build 23181 is tagged as 4.0.202.0. No significant changes have been noticed except the ‘Get Themes’ Option, which is now available under Options -> Personal Stuff. Google Chrome is considered as one of the fastest browser and is gaining the market share quickly. Technical Program Manager Anthony Laforge says- “We’ve officially bumped Chromium to 4.0.x to reflect our code freeze point for 3.0. There is still a bit of work that needs to be done for 3.0 in terms of stability and fixes, and to that end we will be pulling changes into the 195 branch (what will become the stable release). Keep your eyes out for future updates on the beta channel.”" - Dan Smith
i think 3 must be stable for themes and addons now. this can increase the user count. and sony deal is also here - Ahmet Soyata
BatteryCare Displays Detailed Battery Information - Featured Windows Download - Lifehacker - http://lifehacker.com/5334722...
"Windows only: System monitoring utility BatteryCare shows detailed information about your battery's wear level, capacity, and consumption—and even shows the CPU temperature as an added bonus. The utility not only gives you loads of great information about your system's battery, it also will let you automatically disable Windows Aero if you are running on battery power, or pause demanding services—though it doesn't tell you which services those are. Overall it's a useful little utility definitely worth a look if you are dealing with battery charging issues. BatteryCare is a free download for Windows only. - Dan Smith
