Re: It’s Morning in Venture Capital - http://www.bothsidesofthetable.com/2012...
"Mark, I don't understand why virtual goods won't work for Facebook as well, as a way to monetize the bottom of the pyramid. I hope that is how it will grow revenue . That's why I did buy some stock. Also, you are right about online all the time and the potential for ALL ecommerce. Last, I predict big returns for VCs who invest in health care disruption. They need runway to scale because selling into hospitals takes a loooooooong time." - Francine Hardaway

"Yes and no. The HUD woman got it, but then couldn't offer a solution because, as she said, budgets have been cut. It is always about money, and never about whether the program is appropriate or is managed well. Many of these programs aren't managed so the money gets to the end user." - Francine Hardaway

"Yahoo Groups is a mainstay for churches, affinity groups, and people who know nothing about technology. I have a 2000 person email group that has been running on it since 2000. I wouldn't even know where to migrate it seamlessly, even though I know how to use most tech tools. Google Groups doesn't have the same functionality." - Francine Hardaway

"I think the issue of anonymity is a totally different one from the issue of identity. Spammers and trolls make anonymity and aliases annoying. But I agree that one ought to be able to discard some of the comments of one's past without penalty. It isn't true, however; look at the problems political candidates are having. The internet isn't the only source, because video captures what the candidates have said and reveals their changes. Those changes are alternatively known as flipflops or evolutions or lies. Those are all loaded terms. They're probably just changes of opinion." - Francine Hardaway

Re:  louisgray.com: Fitbit: Virtual Badges Influence Real Behavior - http://blog.louisgray.com/2012...
"I have had two Fitbits and two Jawbone Ups since they came out. I lost the first Fitbit and broke the first Jawbone Up. I got tired of the Fitbit when I realized I walked the same number of steps and ate the same stuff, wrong or right, every day, and slept at 98% effectiveness most nights.  The Jawbone Up is easier to wear, but you have to tell it when you are sleeping, photograph your food, and it doesn't count movement that isn't walking (biking, yoga). Nothing produced behavior change, because I am impervious to social pressure. But then I went to a nutritionist, found out I was sensitive to dairy and beans and quit eating them. And I lost nine pounds easily. I geeked out over all those numbers for a while, but at the end of the day you don't change until you are ready." - Francine Hardaway
Re: Suicide in Success, Race and Social Media - http://socialwayne.com/2012...
"Wayne, I've been looking at the suicide issue myself, because many people I know in Phoenix, my age, have committed suicide rather than be a drag on their kids. Different problem, same solution. Just sayin' . I know what you mean. I grew up in NYC, and after 43 years of living in Phoenix, it still boggles my mind that I can go days without seeing a black person. Black people were a part of my childhood/family." - Francine Hardaway

"I was just interviewed for a story on Trailblazing Women for the Arizona Republic because although I have lived in Phoenix since 1968, I've reinvented myself so many times that it finally drew attention to me. First, I was a college professor. I got bored after ten years, and started a marketing company. I got bored after 16 years and sold it to Intel. Inside Intel, I was bored after a year, and started an incubator for startup companies. Now I am a writer, investor, and a mentor. Along the way, I've also had five marriages, 2 children, 3 foster children, and a ton of great relationships. I would like to sing the praises of periodic re-invention for a long and happy life. And, by the way, I've been on antidepressants for 18 years, too. My problem is anxiety. Get me a good agent and I will write my memoir:-)" - Francine Hardaway
