Jay Rosen

I teach journalism at NYU, write the blog PressThink, direct NewAssignment.Net, and try to grok new media. I don't do lifecasting but mindcasting on Twitter.
RT @chrisbrogan: @PatrickJLemieux @jayrosen_nyu @David_Dobbs - I *use* social. I also use the telephone. I'm a business strategist. :)

I don't know what @tabletmag thought it was doing here but it sure was dumb. http://candlerblog.com/2014...

"The best way of guarding against torture is an American public well informed about the moral and strategic costs..." http://www.nytimes.com/2014...
I admit to being amused by the portion of readers for whom the phrase "hard to explain" = fighting words.
Future historians will find it hard to explain why much our press could not call torture "torture." http://www.salon.com/2014... via @Kittfornow
I put up this short note on Facebook about how I do my work as a critic. Some regular readers found it useful. https://t.co/M5BDC973Li
RT @ggreenwald: Sorry - then there's no obligation requiring that government comment be sought before publishing https://t.co/XWF78WbBlt
The government took what would have been a scoop for @TheIntercept and gave it to the AP, which published first. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014...
Israel, Gaza, War & Data https://t.co/7oocxko1fr Easily most important thing I read today about media coverage of the war.
...@ProPublica does smart things. To me this is the smartest. The way they leverage time spent compiling data sets. http://www.niemanlab.org/2014...
RT @Circa: Editor’s note: We’re not reporting every suspected Ebola patient that comes into a hospital. We will report if a positive test comes back.
It's reasonable for ER staff to assume that someone with fever, chills, headaches, vomiting, and diarrhea who was recently in West Africa might possibly have Ebola because it's on the differential and the cost of missing it is very high. It's not reasonable for the MSM to report every single case of fever, chills, headaches, vomiting, and diarrhea who was recently in West Africa because the odds of it actually being Ebola is not very good. - Victor Ganata
By me. "I want to explain something about how I work, so that Facebook can refuse to send it to my subscribers." http://www.facebook.com/jayrose...
Very unwise column in @tabletmag about NYT photos from Gaza http://www.tabletmag.com/scroll... is answered by Times photographer https://t.co/k6QxfFE1t9

RT @rudoren: My first (and, I hope, last) encounter with Israel's military censor, explained -- no paywall. https://t.co/TzbAEtb4z6 @LydiaPolgreen
...@carr2n's shutter speed in his @ggreenwald profile captured the kick of launching something that crosses the web. http://www.nytimes.com/2014...
Heard of "slow blogging?" ...No? Google it. I consider myself a practitioner. Idea under development for nine years. http://pressthink.org/2014...
Resolved! 1.) journalism means informing people... 2.) It means that, plus enabling civic action. No. 2 is coming on. http://localnewslab.org/2014...
If one were to ask, "who is the most talented journalist working today in the U.S.?" I'd probably say David Remnick. http://www.newyorker.com/magazin...
RT @NiemanLab: OkCupid barreled into the Facebook “human experiment” controversy— here’s what Jay Rosen thought about it http://pressthink.org/2014...
RT @brianstelter: CNN exec re: covering Gaza: "We have had no intimidation from Hamas, and received no threats regarding our reporting" http://reliablesources.blogs.cnn.com/2014...
Someone could have a grand time rounding up all the Greenwald profiles that begin with the jungle and the dogs. Not saying I would do that.
It's called journalism, folks. A classic public good: http://gazette.com/broken-...
I published this today. Listener’s guide to @christianrudder explaining why OkCupid experimented with unwitting users http://pressthink.org/2014...
I just posted this. Listener’s guide to Christian Rudder explaining why OkCupid experimented with unwitting users. http://pressthink.org/2014...
Dear TV producer saying to self, "We're going to have a debate!" No, you're not. Get real. You will have both sides rant and leave it there.
Re-litigating 50 years of Palestinians vs. Israelis with @rulajebreal and Elliot Abrams on a media criticism show? No thanks, @brianstelter
