"Marius paints still lifes in oil and make many illustrations, but his great love is, the portrait. especially children, they have something simple, they do not wear masks as adults often do. His work is characterized by the many details, there is much to see. Often you can see something humorous in his paintings , he believes that humor can make the work more accessible."

"From what I hear, unless Jenn detonates Tabasco-soaked barbed explosives in her hoo-haw for a living, then odds are the delivery is gonna be a BIT more "pain full then" her job. But that's just what I hear. ;)"

"Unlike in western Europe, where rebellions against the Academy led toward aestheticism, the Russian rebels took their art in another direction. They were interested in a brand of realism that squarely confronted the ills of their society, denouncing the hypocracies and follies of their times."

"Nara typically paints children with over-sized heads, big round eyes that seem harmless but not innocent. The children are usually alone with little or no background. His “cute” characters, often have accusatory or simply annoyed expressions, and they sometimes carry weapons. Nara, however, does not see his weapon-wielding subjects as aggressors. “Look at them, they [the weapons] are so small, like toys. Do you think they could fight with those?” he says. “I don’t think so. Rather, I kind of see the children among other, bigger, bad people all around them, who are holding bigger knives…”"

"Not so much a narrative as an excuse to showcase Stasys Eidrigevicius’s fetching artwork. Children can enjoy sight gags of a long proboscis without the moralizing found in other books of extraordinary beaks."

"Carson Ellis turned me on to the incredibly fun blog Curious Pages. Lane Smith and Bob Shea, who have themselves created quite a few children's books, describe their site perfectly: "Looking for books about teddy bears or rainbows or feelings? You're at the wrong place. Here we celebrate the offbeat, the abstract, the unusual, the surreal, the macabre, the inappropriate, the subversive and the funky.""

"Rose Frantzen’s show is a stunning tour de force of alla prima portrait painting. One hundred and eighty 12x12 portraits painted on what looks like half inch panels which are not framed. Each portrait was painted in four or five hours from life. Anyone willing to take the time to sit for her was accepted."

"A new decade is about to start, and you may be tempted to set a copious list of resolutions for yourself in order to broadly "make life better." You may be thinking that you'll jump in on January 1 to reform everything from diet to relationships to personality. That, experts say, is the wrong approach. It's great to want to make changes, but in order to actually accomplish your goals, they say, it's important to be realistic, specific, and accountable. Here are 10 things you can do to help yourself stay in a mindset to make positive changes in the coming year:"

Do you use online backup? Do you keep everything in one place, or spread it around between free accounts? Right now I have most of my photos at Picasa, lots of goodies at Evernote and a lot of documents on Google Docs. I thought I could get it all in one place at Mozy, but it wont' fit on their free service. What do you do?
We have a website for the paintings and a blog for sharing ideas. For photos, we hesitate between another blog or flickr and spreading them around but i think a photoblog might be what we will do.

"Recently, I had to pull out my dusty anatomy books. I wish I could say that it was for some grand painting project, but sadly, it was because I needed to make an appointment with the orthopedist. It was nice to be able to call the doctor's office and clearly communicate that, "I think I tore the patellar tendon where it meets the anterior tuberosity of the tibia." (It would have been nicer still if I were not forced to know such a thing, but the situation being what it is, at least I could go in for my visit having the doctor knowing exactly where to begin)."
