I build ideas and talk about the Internet all day long. I also write and publish stuff.

"Obvious" solutions in the moment often have not so obvious consequences, and the world has enough of those...
To make good decisions you need good information, and time to think about what that information means.
RT @JustinKownacki: Because Twitter is immediate, when we see a problem like Ferguson (or Gaza or ISIS) we want it solved *now*. But wise solutions take time.
In general, people are a lot more likely to be intellectually lazy than purposefully malicious. The distinction is important.

There is often a kernel of truth in even the most execrable argument, being unwilling to note it is not courage, it's dangerous.
Once you've decided that you are the protagonist in an 'us vs them' conflict, almost all opportunity for critical thinking has been lost.
This has implications ranging from geo-politics to debates in blog comments.
If you have always wanted to be a hero, it's easy to construct narratives in which you are, sometimes to the great detriment of others.
The goal of good debate should be to gain a more nuanced view of your own argument rather than to strong arm people to share your opinion.

Also, remember how to villains in Batman were only marginally more dangerous than the ones in Home Alone?
Some days you watch Batman because Batman helps the world make sense.

There is nothing quite as dangerous to clear thinking as self-reinforcing social bubbles.

I have to remind myself that one of the reasons we hear about so much tragedy is that more than any other time in history people care.
Do yourself a favor and tell someone you care about that they're important to you. The Internet will wait.
RT @benparr: If you’re struggling, feeling depressed or coping with an addiction/mental disorder, reach out. Talk to somebody. You aren’t alone.
I think we should all just take a day to be much, much nicer to one another -- you know, for a change.
