The Scariest Jobs Chart Ever - http://www.businessinsider.com/henry-b...
"It's now official: The country has lost more jobs as a percentage of peak employment than any time since the Great Depression." - Tom Stocky
So, Great Depression or Greatest Depression? Or Depression 2.0? Someone's tried to get something to stick already, right? - Andy Bakun
Don't be naive. Careers with full benefits and real retirements are gone, replaced by much lower-paying jobs with few benefits and rarely a retirement plan. This is unlikely to change as long as public selfishness remains the norm. We can't buy cheap at Wal-Mart and support jobs that provide a good living. The solution is working for yourself and supporting small local and online businesses. - Gail Gardner

Researchers create paint that blocks Wi-Fi signals - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2...
"The paint contains an aluminium-iron oxide which resonates at the same frequency as wi-fi - or other radio waves - meaning the airborne data is absorbed and blocked. By coating an entire room, signals can't get in and, crucially, can't get out. Developed at the University of Tokyo, the paint could cost as little as £10 per kilogram, researchers say." - Tom Stocky
I must have used that paint in my last house without knowing it! - Lou Paglia
One place, one page - Google Maps now has Place Pages - http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2009...
"A Place Page is a web page for every place in the world, organizing all the world's information for that place. And we really mean every place: there are Place Pages for businesses, points of interest, transit stations, landmarks, and cities all over the world. To find a Place Page, click on 'more info' in your Google Maps search results or 'more info' in the info bubble on the map." - Tom Stocky

Now that Chrome 3 is out (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009...), I think it's officially time to convert my parents. They too need a faster web.
I converted my mom to Chrome 1 and she loved it immediately. I was a little surprised, and when I asked what she liked about it, she said "it's just really fast". Made me so proud :) - Joel Webber

Artificial Heart Inspired by a Cockroach and Built like an Onion - http://medgadget.com/archive...
"The device… draws inspiration from the heart of a cockroach which has a fail-safe mechanism. A cockroach’s heart has as many as 13 chambers, unlike the four in a human heart. As a result, failure of a single chamber in the former does not become life threatening unlike in the latter, says Guha. Moreover, the pumping of blood in a cockroach’s heart happens in a staged manner, which reduces the build up of pressure, often experienced in the human heart." - Tom Stocky
experiencing a shifted work week for the first time. I'm tempted to work in "Sounds like someone has a case of the Sundays" at some point.
"These electrical outlet covers let you put your mobile phone on the wall as it recharges. The antlers for all three types of deer are already the perfect shape to hold things, so we hardly had to modify the forms at all. The tough urethane rubber we used for the cover holds handsets tightly, and also protects the antlers from breakage should you bump into them. Socket-deer can also be used as a cover for light switches, and the antlers make an excellent hook for keys or accessories." - Tom Stocky
One other suggestion: more sockets should be placed up at desk level, not down near the floor. - Andrew C (✔)

New improvements to the Android Market - http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009...
"As part of this change, developers will be able to provide screenshots, promotional icons and descriptions that will better show off applications and games. We have also added four new sub-categories for applications: sports, health, themes, and comics." - Tom Stocky
This improvement is welcomed, but I would have prefered an API that helps me to build my own market. Could you simply imagine a world where there will be only one identical shop for all countries, for all cultures, for all ages, for all products ? Sorry, I can't. Give us an API, it will help the community to build the success of the Android plateform. - Didier Girard

Study finds that people who multitask a lot are actually worse at it than those who do it less - http://news.stanford.edu/news...
"To our absolute shock, we found that in any of the categories of activities that we thought their brain would be better at, that would enable them to manage multiple streams of information at one time, they're actually worse at all of them. So it's a great mystery what's going on. All we can say now is that multitaskers are lousy at multitasking." -- Prof. Clifford Nass (in the story's embedded video) - Tom Stocky
Even people with ADD might get bogged down with too many tasks at the same time. Yes they might not have the same attention span as others, but there's still an upper limit on their brain's ability to multitask. - Pandu ● IT Optimizer

While My Guitar Gently Beeps - The Beatles: Rock Band - http://www.nytimes.com/2009...
"The Beatles: Rock Band, which is to be released on Sept. 9 ... 'When they first approached me, I thought, Do I really want to do a plastic-guitar Beatles game?' [Giles Martin] said. He was persuaded to do so, he told me, after seeing how the games intensify people’s engagement with music. 'In the same way we listened to records over and over again,' he observed, 'because I don’t think kids do that anymore. They’ve got too much other stuff competing for their attention.'" - Tom Stocky
