This just in: Mom's surgery a success. 24 hrs in ICU then 5-7 days hospital convalescence with expectation of uneventful recovery. A little more detail: they had found a 10cm tumor in her colon and 9 stones in her gall bladder. The latter (bladder) was removed, as well as the tumor, and the doctor's prognosis is that it was self-contained and had not spread. All terrific news! She won't be able to eat or drink for the next 3-5 days, though, but looks like I'll be able to spend a few days with her once she's home again next week.

Heading out tomorrow to spend a few days with her at the "care center" (nursing home, but too late to whisper, she already found out). My brother and his wife have been with her 24/7 these past 2 weeks.
