BAH! I just learned that they cancelled my security upgrade process. It appears I wasn't denied the upgrade but that the "Customer" cancelled the process before completion. Definitely deflating as I had been mostly treading water until that was complete. Time to hit the virtual bricks because I'm ready to move from my current job to something else.
While I'm trying to comfort myself with "at least I know now", it's not the same as "You're approved!" would be. :) Not the end of the world and now I can get some focus in my work life as to where I can/want to go.

I gave in this morning and replied back. Not that I suspect anything will come of it but it can't hurt to check that bridges are still there as I never like to burn one.
