What will new networks do when Friendfeed is no longer around? How will they capture all the geeks who are inherently interested in the new shinies and sign up for them "...just to see.."?

FriendFeed Will Always Be Around. So Let It Be Written. So Let It Be Done.

"To kill the first born pharaoh's son -- I'm Creeping Death!" Nice Metallica reference, Louis :D

Just like the saying "Any new gadget will sell 10K", same for social networks -- we're all an automatic 'in'.

I'm with Louis: So sayeth the shepherd; so sayeth the flock!
- Akiva
Hope so. I've seen two favorite sites get the "30 day notice" recently (Lala being the big one).

Actually I don't think Friendfeed will shut down as such. It will be absorbed by FB somehow and, at that point, will cease to be. Now I made myself sad.
- WoH: Professor MOTHRA
it will be absorbed into the greater whole and lose its individual identity?
- Big Joe Silenced
At the point that it is absorbed by FB, the community will have moved on and so the heart of FF will be gone.
- WoH: Professor MOTHRA
(btw, the thought of me losing my individual identity freaks me right the Hell out. same as oblivion.)
- Big Joe Silenced
Sometimes I secretly hope for a catastrophic shutdown rather than see it slowly absorbed by the blob http://www.imdb.com/title... .
- Micah
moved on or simply wandered off.
- Big Joe Silenced
Joe: you will still be Joe, but "Joe Silence (circumspect), avid FFer" will be gone
- WoH: Professor MOTHRA
:) Micah, I know what you mean. And The Blob is a CLASSIC!
- WoH: Professor MOTHRA
Yep. :)

Curious: was there some sort of update that I missed about FriendFeed going anywhere recently?
- Melanie Reed
Melanie, nope. But in recent days there have been waves of /it feels like a ghost town/ flowing through. Lot's of voices said this months ago but it never affected me then. But something's different with my feed lately.
- Micah
@Higlet: i'll still be Joe Silence and i will occasionally be circumspect, but that exact handle will probly be gone. i'll just be Joe Silence, then.
- Big Joe Silenced
Micah, Interesting. Now on my feed there have been people saying the opposite only a few days ago. Could be a number of reasons that don't have anything to do with FF. Things peak and valley.
- Melanie Reed
Just for the record: I don't think FF is going anywhere imminently! Let's face(book) it - they need to keep at least one of their communities happy until the stink over the FB setting have died down! #makinglemonade #sweetlemonade

- Zu from AOD
That's what I mean, Zu. So far as we know, FF the platform is going to carry on for the time being.
- WoH: Professor MOTHRA
FB will act based on Paul and Bret. If P&B are ever convinced it's ok to shutdown FF, then it will be. But that's a pretty high hurdle.
- Christopher Galtenberg
Part of the ghost town factor is people taking their feeds private. Obviously people have the right to do that, and it's better than deleting your account, but it reduces the richness of FOAF.
- Bruce Lewis
Bruce why do you think people are taking their feeds private?
- Melanie Reed
Just to say again - I don't think FF is going away soon and I'm seeing at least as much interaction as I have ever done. I made this comment due to high numbers of FFers trying out Lazyfeed (and Simler and other stuff before it). FF is a great, ready-made test bed for new stuffs. Dangle your shinies and ppl will check them out.
- WoH: Professor MOTHRA
I've been wondering whether Lazyfeed (I don't even like that name. Sounds lethargic.) is the reason that things have been so slow over here on FF today. Half of us went to check it out. *shrug* It'll pass. And LOL at Louis Gray's first.
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
I'm struggling to get *why* I should want to use Lazyfeed when you can only tweak what it shows by blocking sources. It was exciting to see the auto-populate bit but it's frustrating to make it show relevant stuff.
- WoH: Professor MOTHRA
Kamilah: has it been quieter? I've not been here that much today so I can't really tell. And I'm just glad Louis didn't put "First!".
