While I am most definitely not a practicing Catholic anymore, I still join in observing certain things with my family as a show of solidarity. While the rest of the family fasts during Lent, I take the lenient road and just give something up. This year I have no idea what to give up. I have less than 24 hours to figure it out. Hm.
MAN would say he's an atheist but he too will give something up for Lent. He likes the idea. - Shannon - GlassMistress
I'm an atheist as well (I figured if I put that in my OP, it would piss someone off, so I'm totally burying the lede here) but I do find the entire concept and process of Lent to be applicable to those who are not of the church. I think it's a good time to practice mindfulness and recognize the sacrifices that someone else may have made on our behalf. - Hookuh Tinypants
I think taking something up, like volunteering, is also acceptable. - Yolanda
Hookuh, are you leaning towards giving up a food or a behavior for Lent? - Stephen Mack
I'm not really practicing anymore either but I do still like abstaining from cow and birds on Fridays during the Lenten season. - Yolanda
I already do a ton of volunteering, and I'm already on a specific nutrition plan so I've already given up all the usual suspects (and I find that to kind of be a cop-out anyway). At this point I'm not leaning toward anything. Just waiting to figure out what feels right this time. It'll likely come to me at the 11th hour. :) - Hookuh Tinypants
Me too... About the cop out. I mean, we are just going to go back to eating chocolate so what's the point? I think it is better to try being non-douchey if you are regularly douchey so it can become a habit maybe. - Yolanda
Good call. I like the idea of using the time to reflect on personal behavior and how it affects others and the relationships we have. - Hookuh Tinypants
