I agree with the general point, but Franzen is so annoying.

I haven't encountered him too much, but the whole "I'm such a better person than you in innumerable ways, but I'm going to count them anyway" opening to the article really just put me off. Judging by the Slate article, that's his whole schtick? Ugh.
