If a comedian retiring is a massive threat to political discourse in your country, you have larger problems than his retirement.
ya, what's going to fill that time slot - Kevin Johnson
it is, but I think part of it is the overall horrid state of the news today and the fact that Jon didn't pull punches with what he covered, even if he was making fun of it. I think its why I and so many folks I know gravitated towards watching him. I know I gave up on watching the network news because they just don't seem to give a crap half the time about actually reporting the news anymore - Sir Shuping is just sir
Perhaps Glenn Beck will fill it, since y'all looking for a comedian - Mo Kargas
He's not only a comedian, he's a satirist. Every country needs its satirists and skilled satirists with large audiences are important for holding politicians' feet to the fire. That has been historically true in many countries over many years. - Spidra Webster
Yes, but when combined with a woefully lacklustre news space, the over reliance of that satirist is an issue. People would rather laugh at the person making fun of the news than making choices in an effort to improve the standard of news. - Johnny
People watch The Daily Show, get their nightly fix and then.... do nothing. If the existence of The Daily Show hasn't improved the news space by the time it concludes then the viewers have truly got what they deserved. - Johnny
I'd agree with you Johnny except what do we do to improve the news? We've told stations that isn't what we want, but they don't seem to care. I think that's whats given the rise to so many independent bloggers and other news sites is that's what people are trying to do make stuff change. - Sir Shuping is just sir
