I'll guess its not anything being done to friendfeed specifically, its something about the facebook datacenter or software environment where it runs.

Ok, we may have fixed the issues. We had restarted frontends with old flags, causing all sorts of cache problems. We have about 20 minutes more of making sure everything has the right flags, but things should kind of be working now.
