Gah sideways
- Stephen Mack
Maybe not a great sign that you're already horizontal, but best of luck to you guys!
- Eivind
5k done, 95k to go! Louis is a fast walker. Why are we so crazy? My right foot is a little sore.
- Stephen Mack
Good luck, guys!
- Jenny H.
Good luck! :D
- Jennifer Dittrich
Thank you! Dodging bicycles on the Steven's Creek Trail. 8k steps down in 75 mins.
- Stephen Mack
11k done. Louis is on his second Diet Coke.
- Stephen Mack
wait, how come he can drink a soda but you can't drink your coffee? nonsense!
- t-ra is ugly crying
He's more talented at drinking on the move than I am :(
- Stephen Mack
18k steps! Starting to feel it.
- Stephen Mack
20k steps before 9am!
- Stephen Mack
Ken is with us now, yay!
- Stephen Mack
You need a straw
- The Other Yvonne
I do. 25k done!
- Stephen Mack
Louis. Have a little mercy. Stephen, he is not the boss of you ... srsly, be careful guys. Have fun.
- Laura Norvig
Thanks, Laura! 30k achieved. Louis is nearly 2k ahead of me because he doesn't stop moving when I tie my shoe or stop to pee. He. Is. A. Robot.
- Stephen Mack
He'll take you round the universe and all the other places too, Stephen!
- WoH: Professor MOTHRA
I think you're right, Hig. He's taking me 36k so far -- we're past the one third milestone.
- Stephen Mack
Are you popping ibuprofen to prevent foot swelling/pain?
- Meg VMeg
Meg, about to start. I have some blister goo on now thanks to Slacy.
- Stephen Mack
Please consider a donation! https://www.firstgiving.com/fundrai...
- Stephen Mack
45k now!
- Stephen Mack
52.5k now. Louis is 56k. Stride difference or device difference? Also he keeps walking when I stop to pee. Grr! The difference is a problem.
- Stephen Mack
Ken G. did 30k or more with us. Great job and thank you, Ken! Edit: 35k
- Stephen Mack
Don't take any ibuprofen! Rule of thumb when you're doing an endurance event (even walking or hiking). You don't take painkillers of any kind because they can cause kidney and/or liver damage (it screws with your hydration and sodium levels). You have to wait until you've had your first good pee after you've completed your endurance event before you should take a painkiller of any kind.
- Hookuh Tinypants
Oops. Good advice. Too late. :(
- Stephen Mack
26.9 miles walked, 58.4k steps. A marathon walked in 10 hours.
- Stephen Mack
63k but Louis is somehow at 69,800. I can understand him being 2k or 3k ahead but he picked up 1,000 steps on me in the last 20 min while walking the same trail. Something ain't right.
- Stephen Mack
Hmm. We did a test. He's currently getting 100 steps while I got 75 -- but we were walking side by side and matching strides. So I'm going to use his count. :)
- Stephen Mack
We're therefore nearing 75k. :)
- Stephen Mack
:-)
- bentley
GO! GO! GOOOOOOOO!!! *shakes pom-poms*
- vicster.
Thanks, Vicster!
- Stephen Mack
4 hours to go. Dark again. Why did we do this on the second shortest day of the year.
- Stephen Mack
We just saw a fox.
- Stephen Mack
I have a sneaking suspicion even Louis will sleep well when you're finished.
- Eric Logan
Stephen, what did the fox say?
- bentley
Way to go, Stephen! I walked 200 steps today on one leg, exhausted. :)
- Stephan Planken
80k! Just told a dirty joke. Louis didn't laugh. #robot
- Stephen Mack
You two are awesome!
- team everyone
Thanks, Joey! (You're awesome too.)
- Stephen Mack
17k to go. Ankle really hurts on left. Roger is here!
- Stephen Mack
I totally forgot to mention here that my sister walked four hours with us. She rocks.
- Stephen Mack
85k per Louis's tracker. We're literally on the home stretch.
- Stephen Mack
You are a mach daddy machine!
- t-ra is ugly crying
This is so cool guys. WAY. TO. GO.
- SAM
Keep it up, guys! Awesome work! :))
- WoH: Professor MOTHRA
90k steps achieved! Also extreme soreness!
- Stephen Mack
90K! Woooo!
- bentley
92k now. Going slowwwww.
- Stephen Mack
Go go go! Slow and steady wins the race my friend.
- t-ra is ugly crying
Thanks, Tamara, Scott, Mary and Betsy! Taking a bench break.
- Stephen Mack
*sends massaging calf muscle vibes*
- t-ra is ugly crying
You guys are in the home stretch!
- Brian Johns
Too long a streeeeetch, Sparky. We're limping along now. Roger is holding both our backpacks. 93,857 steps.
- Stephen Mack
Almost there! You've got this!
- Jennifer Dittrich
Thanks, Jennifer. Nearly 97k. Last wind
- Stephen Mack
Yay! You got this!
- team everyone
Feels close!
- Stephen Mack

Congratulations, Stephen!
- Stephan Planken
Well done, guys! I hope you both are resting comfortably.
- Corinne L
Thanks all! In the tub.
- Stephen Mack
Thanks for being my amazing partner and for this thread, Stephen!
- Louis Gray
This thread is epic! 1) Yes, I am a robot. 2) Yes, I bossed Stephen. 3) Yes, I laughed at his joke. 4) Yes, there was a Fitbit count issue, but I made 100k! 5) I am way sore and not sleeping... BECAUSE you know why.
- Louis Gray
Woo-hoo!!!! Congratulations!
- bentley
Let us know how your feet feel when you wake up. ;)
- April Russo (FForever!)
Stiff, sore, slow. I am old.
- Louis Gray
April: I slept in to 11. I think the technical term for how they feel is "not good."
- Stephen Mack
It's too late to advise you guys to ice your legs, but I recommend a hot bath with Epsom salts. Soak for at least 15 minutes. Make sure you get up and move frequently throughout the day. Doesn't need to be fast or long, just enough to keep your muscles from tightening back up. Do some stretches, both static and dynamic. And hydrate like your life depends on it. Also, pull up your Fitbit dashboard or app periodically and stare at your numbers for yesterday. Revel in that. :)
- Hookuh Tinypants
Excellent advice, Hookuh! I did ice a bit before bath last night, and am doing some more ice today. Epsom salt bath soon. Good idea on the stretches.
- Stephen Mack
I've found some short walks to be helpful for me today, along with the stretching. Not so sore that I need ice or espom salt baths today. Definitely had reached my limit yesterday and happy to have stopped then. Don't envy Louis & you today.
- Ken Gidley
If by "short walks" I can qualify with "hobbling to and from the kitchen" then I can say I took several short walks today. Fitbit tells me I've taken 270 steps so far today. That's a litttttle bit different from yesterday. (BTW, when I got home last night and realized I needed to take the trash bins down, I was so mad.)
- Stephen Mack
That's how I would have felt after about 7K, and it would take me days to recover. I try to stay between 3K and 5K on most days.
- April Russo (FForever!)
Just remember - it's not the day after that kills you. It gets worse on the second day after. *runs away*
- Hookuh Tinypants
Tinypants!!! (Shakes fist)
- Louis Gray
I did more than 9,000 steps today, because I had to do Christmas shopping still, and take kids places. But I've not been dramatically exerting. Over time, the stiffness will subside.
- Louis Gray
Just consider it a reminder of your awesomeness. :)
