I'm not technical. I'm getting frustrated with trying to find out how to convert an old iPhone first gen to an iPod Touch. My mom's iPhone doesn't have a SIM card. I need help, but not getting much answers. I need help. I want to scream. ARGH She gets her new iPhone 4S next weekend. I want to just hit my head against a brick wall. I've heard and re
It's my Mom's and she's giving me it after deactivating it. I am about to scream. I'm getting an anxiety attack over this. I want it to use as an iPod Touch (can't afford to get one because you need to get a plan for the internet). - Molly Song ;)
You will likely need, at least temporarily, an activated ATT SIM card. Give me a minute and I'll dig up the article in that. - Rahsheen
Not sure what you mean by convert. Once the phone plan is turned off, you are pretty much left with an ipod touch. - Yolanda
Oh! the sim doesn't have to be active. It just needs to be in the iphone and then you connect to itunes. Once you are done, you can move the SIM out and use the iphone as an ipod. - Yolanda
Thanks Rah. One last thing, my mom has a Mac and I have a PC. I just don't want to have to reformat the thing once I get it. - Molly Song ;)
It's not hard, No sim = instant IPod. Just ensure you have ITunes and App Store on it at least. OH and you MUST have a WIFI connection. Go settings: wifi: pick it and voila. Download netflix and pandora from the app store or iTunes and that is it. - Sandy Kristal
Thanks, guys. This might be temperary since I was talking to my Mom and she might get me a new iPod touch for christmas. :) I'm keeping my old iPod though for music. I was going to use the iPod Touch for Pandora and Netflix and other streaming media and audio books. - Molly Song ;)
My Mom's iPhone 4S came today. Now, can her old first gen work as an iPod touch, I'm still nervous it won't work. - Molly Song ;)
