Once in a while you have to ask yourself, self, was that the best or worst idea ever? and sometimes the answer is both!

I have these foam pumpkins I'm carving. Some of them are the ones meant to be carved and are hollow. Others are meant more for floral arrangement type things and are full of white foam and aren't meant to be carved all that much. I'm carving them anyway, but actually hollowing them out is an incredibly SLOW A$$ PROCESS!! I got really sick of it. So tonight I decided to try a approach other than knives, scoops and hot wire knives of various styles. Tonight I cut open the bottom and then took a heat gun to the white foam inside! It worked brilliantly. I'm currently airing out the garage though and think I will use a better breathing apparatus than my hand over my mouth next time. :)

It was really cool to watch the foam melt away though! Like I said, best/worst idea!!

Dremel. best pumpkin carving implement EVAR.

When I was a kid I liked to put model glue on styrofoam and melt it away. Fun to watch until my dad found out & I got in trouble. I was prolly getting high off the fumes too :-\

Jonathan, Dremel is okay. great for carving foam gravestones but I prefer a few other tools usually for pumpkins. But it all depends on real or fake pumpkins too. But here I'm not carving, I'm hollowing and the foam centers of fake pumpkins and the dremel does me very little good here.

LOL Starmama. I thought about that too, but decided that if I could melt it, the fumes would not be quite as horrible for mas if I added a glue in the mix. Plus I need to carve the pumpkin after it's hollow and the hard glue might not help. Gorilla glue on foam is pretty fun to watch too! :)
