Instead, they are primarily lawyers or business owners. This means that the majority of elected representatives are unlikely to know the fine details of the technology, among other things. Take the late Senator Ted Steven’s "series of tubes" description of the Internet in 2006, and the overwhelming lack of understanding of SOPA/PIPA effects last year. This lack of fundamental knowledge presents a huge obstacle to explaining the nuances of complex issues posed by cyber (and space science, and quantum physics, and genetic engineering, and many other cutting edge areas). Furthermore, officials and representatives who are operating according to an agenda based on political zealotry, religious ideology, or similar extreme views are not likely to really care about highly nuanced technical issues. However, those are the people who we, the people, elect to a large number of important offices. http://globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com/2013... , 5 -29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... sort http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

sort ~ This might be part of a political ad, the uplifting kind, not the sort of commercial that regards opponents as dolts or liars or criminals. Instead, the ad tries to associate the goodness of our nation, the hardworking and determined folks who stand as components of American character, with an institution, in this case the Charles Schwab investment firm. “Around here, you don’t make excuses. You make commitments,” the script goes. “And when you can’t live up to them, you own up and make it right.”
Nice words. They could be lifted from one of those popular “Life’s Little Instruction Books,” quick-hit morsels of common sense and everyday guidance. ~ The Schwab ad says, “Some people think the kind of accountability that thrives on so many streets in this country has gone missing in the places where it’s needed most.”
