I admit it. I only know the bare basics about many religions (other than the one I grew up with). It's not out of a lack of curiousity but rather a lack of time as there are so many religions and sub-sects of religions out there. So, it was curiosity (and a bit of time) that got me interested in a show - Little Mosque. The blame can be placed squarely on Hulu as it kept recommending it as a show I would enjoy. I finished up the last episode last night and have to admit to not only liking the now defunct series but to having learned a few things I wasn't aware of with regard to Muslims and their traditions. For instance, I did not know: Traditional Muslims do not have canines as pets. They are considered impure. Hunting dogs and guard dogs are permissible. The hijab is worn by quite a few Muslim women - both willingly and without it being about oppression. Devout Muslim women cover their hair as part of their practice of modesty.
