You really start to appreciate how important Andrew Luck was to Stanford this year after watching the Sun Bowl. Tavita Pritchard really couldn't cut it, and Toby can't do it all himself.

Ironically, apparently Toby was able to perform a chop block by himself. Go figure.

Here's where Stanford gets robbed: http://www.youtube.com/watch... Stanford is up 21-17, Marecic catches a pass in the back of the end zone for the TD, but the ref calls a chop block, backs Stanford up 15 yards and they have to settle for a field goal. Thing is, there's no chop block. Gerhart is blocking the DE (84) when the DB stumbles into the DE's legs and the ref throws the flag. A chop block is "a high-low or low-high combination block by
any two players against an opponent (not the ball carrier)..."

To be fair, the refs called a bunch of bad calls the other direction as well (like that Oklahoma catch that was probably in bounds that they called out). The refs definitely irritated me throughout the game

Yeah, the refs were just painful. I don't believe the chop block call is specifically reviewable, but the replay officials can correct "egregious errors"... so... who knows. There was also the punt where Bademosi hit Broyles, Broyles fumbled, and Stanford ended up with a field goal. I don't remember... on the Broyles out-of-bounds call, what was the result of that drive? Ah well... it's too bad the officials had such a significant role in the outcome. Sigh.

Christopher's comment is on point. Cal also had a terrible bowl showing, and the Pac 10 has been miserable. To next year and more competitive games!
