Well there may be some point there but Loren isn't necessarily qualified to run Rackspace just because he , too, is an entrepreneur or Business manager. Some can move across different types of companies, others are good at their expertise and just that.

Some successful entrepreneurs of small companies probably couldn't handle larger companies. Those good at managing larger companies might not be good entrepreneurs.

The thing is I study the world's best businesses. I see patterns other people, even the executives in those companies, don't see. Loren doesn't think that learning is valid, but I never sell myself as an executive, only someone who is either a passionate end user (I am) or someone who gets around the world to study the world's greatest/innovative businesses up front and center (Zappos, Target, Boeing, Intel, Microsoft, Fiat/Chrysler, Yelp, Facebook, Google, etc).

Jay: and a lot of coaches haven't played every position, or some haven't played much at all. Yet they are still good coaches, why? I met a famous conductor. He rarely plays music and can't play all the instruments. Loren would have you think that he couldn't be an authority on music. What I find funny is that Loren loves CNN yet have any of the reporters there done anything they are reporting on? No. Yet they are still authoritative and credible. Why?

Robert, they are still often valuable and often credible but any expert on a subject knows how bad some journalism is. The truth is, it's often harmless mistakes.

But I'd like to go to experts on subjects (like read AVC on venture capital) rather than read a journalist's take on some things. The fact is that Robert is an expert on a subject, and I think it's web applications and their businesses from a user's standpont
