"But what if you could have a home that was so energy efficient that it generated enough energy every day to not only power your home and keep it warm, but allow you own and operate an electric car without ever paying for electricity ever again? It sounds too good to be true, but one recently-erected house in Norway can do just that. No energy bills. Ever."

Preferable IMHO to centralized energy systems. A good addition would be water collection.

Yes please :D

I wish it weren't so ugly. :-/

It grew on me. I find function becomes more beautiful over time.

I hear you. I guess I have a thing for Earthships and this is so clearly nothing like that. I don't think Earthships would work in Norway because the southern sun is super weak in the winter (not to mention the regions that have months of polar darkness). Still, I have to believe there is something between Earthships and this that could work! We're definitely looking to end up in a sustainable house on some land, so I try to keep an open mind.

I like the idea of earthships but they almost always look, well, they aren't as nice as I would like :-)

SNOB. :P

A little bit :-)

I've been following 'green building' for a long time. I'd love to build as sustainably as possible, but I just don't know if it will happen. I can't stand compressed tire earthships. I follow several sustainable building groups on FB and you also run across a lot of crazy people there too.
