i don't have direct experience of cable tv boxes, but i have some of sat tv boxes. mine (sky italia) takes a lot of time (not 10 minutes, but anyway minutes) to apparently boot after a power failure or if it had been unplugged. if i just turn it off from the remote, then on, it's pretty fast. i imagine that since the box is supposed to be always on (e.g. to receive updates OTA) the boot time didn't mattered much. anyway, when we had two provider of pay tv in italy we could buy our own boxes, and we could get nice hardware (i had a nokia sat tv box), now we have just one provider (sky) with 'free', subsidized boxes, and these are authentic pieces of shit - Alb.
