me: 50 MBytes/s when copying a 1.7 GB file on the same ext4 partition - or from an ext4 partition to another ext4 partition on the same drive. Corsair GT Force 60GB, Kubuntu 12.10, 3.5.0-23-generic

have you tried dd from /dev/null to particular partition with various fixed block sizes?
