"This photo, purportedly taken near Louisiana's Morganza Spillway, is simultaneously horrifying and kind of amusing. The snake just looks so purposeful, with its head raised like that. As though it's out running some errands, or on a morning commute. That said, I kind of hope somebody spots the pixels that prove this image is a fake. Because the idea of giant snakes hanging out alongside American highways gives my feet a terrible case of the crawling willies."

That's good then - at least I am not connected to them via land mass.

Snakes...why did it have to be snakes?

nice Spidra!

Apparently the King Brown is only the *second longest* of Australia's venomous snakes. (No wonder it was a penal colony...) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

King Brown "Average length: 1.5m, maximum length 2m" don't think that works for the picture so maybe it is altered.

Florida has some nice sized snakes if you're interested. :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

I call fake..

Interestingly enough the picture in the local legends link (which doesn't really seem to provide an obvious indication of fakeness from what I can tell) appears to be in the same location as the picture posted at boing boing but taken from a different perspective.

Ah just mirrored images.

@Brain , yes u have a point.. has any checked comments on boingboing ?
- Peter Dawson
Almost surely fake regardless of where it was supposed to be situated according to everything I can determine.
- Brian Sullivan
It is a real snake but not in Mississippi it is a image from local-legends.net of a Australia snake in Australia.

But those snakes are only 2m long as I posted earlier but the picture seems to indicate a much larger snake.
- Brian Sullivan
That's true Cristo but a lot of internet delivered pictures are low res and there are no readily available higher res versions of them.

The King Brown snake or Mulga can get to 10 feet in northern Australia http://www.pilbarapythons.com/kingbro...
- John D Reasor
The snake in the picture appears to be 20+ feet long.
- Brian Sullivan
It does seems long but it is hard to tell in the image, not knowing how tall the post in the back ground are or how far away.

I had a Python onces long ago, it never moved with it head up like the one in the image.
