My daughter, upon seeing packages of bologna for the first time, declared them to be "sausage cakes".
I thought they were "hotdog cakes"

you americans, learn the word! the real, italian name of what you call "bologna" (otherwise a fine town in northern italy) is "mortadella". and yes, it's delicious, especially with hot "white pizza" (pizza without tomato or mozzarella, just the bread).

eh, it's different :-) !! "white pizza" is thinner than a loaf of bread, it's more salty and before cooking you put a bit of olive oil on top. beach season is opening soon in my town, i long staying at the beach eating white pizza with mortadella for lunch on warm spring sundays!

Alb: Have you ever seen American bologna? It's unrecognizable as mortadella.
- Gabe
Bologna is the common name for mortadella, even in Italy (most of)

@Gabe I think I haven't. I was actually a grad student at NYU so I spent some time in NY, and we went periodically to Balducci's on 6th ave. to get a good approximation of the real one. Btw is Balducci's still there?
