The others can plead ignorance and fear, but what's your excuse Humboldt County? :)

I was thinking the same thing when I looked at this map earlier...

A while ago, I read that they were against any attempts to legalize it statewide to protect their financial interest in growing it.
- Mark Trapp
Growers and the economy that spawned from it?
- Rodfather
Perhaps a number of folks there think it might have negative tax and margin implications.
- AJ Kohn
Need enough marketing behind the campaign to overcome the influence of entrenched interests. 2012!
- Jason Wehmhoener
They need to introduce a prop to bring pot under the same taxation as cigarettes and alcohol BUT legislate that adding pot to the scheme immediately drops that taxation rate of the other two. Smokers = Happy! Boozers = Happy! Stoners = Happy! You'll never get it passed until a majority of people get some benefit out of it

This is my new definition for "ironic"
- DGentry
I'm convinced that there are just way too many people who have an economic interest in keeping it illegal.
- Victor Ganata
That goes for everyone else who imports bud into California too. Like BC Bud

Yes, the obvious answer is greed.

I thought the argument that Prop 19 would make little difference if the feds maintained their aggressive anti-drug enforcement explained the collapse in support

I don't understand that logic. If anything, federal resistance is all the more reason to vote for it.
- Paul Buchheit
I'm starting to think that it's not so much that it needs to be legalized, as it needs to be unillegalized. Anyone can grow lettuce in their backyard, there's never been a need to legalize that. The mistake it that it was ever illegal to begin with. The illegalization created the economic incentive to not legalize it.
- Andy Bakun
I'm sure the state would want a piece of that. If anybody could grow and sell like produce, the state wouldn't get any money from it.
- Rodfather
We were driving through the Humboldt area one weekend and a local radio station was talking about just this issue. Many growers voted against because it would ruin the local economy and their profits, projecting prices would spike down from the typical 300% profit margins. Professional growers would push out the black market and leave the locals in the dust.
- Todd Hoff
Boo! :( That is certainly the definition of ironic.

Economics?

Face it. Prohibition makes drug lords extremely rich.
- Victor Ganata
Are there really so many growers among the general population of the county?
