I'm seeing the reverse in a current dumb FB thread. Someone semi-famous said something racist months ago, apologized, it got brought up half in context to a current event, and his friends are now jumping in to say "yeah, but what he said wasn't actually so bad", which IMO partially undoes their friend's apology.
