"They quote, in that burnt text style, "The truth is, I'm penniless". And I believe there are several other places where the "rich girls don't marry poor boys" theme comes up. However, I'm not at all certain how important that theme is. Yes, it was influential in Fitzgerald's live and has obvious parallels between himself and his work (all of his work has these connections), and I conveys the issues that Gatsby had in getting Daisy from the beginning. But I didn't get a sense that it needs to be a driving theme. You can only focus on so many themes in a movie."
