I'd like a system to show me sites that I've never seen before, a system that treats your "visited places" as a block list.

Interesting, but the privacy implications would be significant.

It could be done locally.

I guess you could pull a block of a few thousand sites at a time, run a diff against your history, hit a few of the remainder, then pull a new block. That might put out enough noise to mitigate the risks.

Here's my "Less Popular Sites" search engine - It blocks 500 or so sites, the most visited sites, plus sites there's a "SuezanneC Baskerville" account at: http://www.google.com/cse... .

Google's doubleclick ad planner "The 1000 most-visited sites on the web" at http://www.google.com/adplann... . If memory serves, the Google Custom Search Engine system craps out at 500 or so "block site" entries. So the search engine title is not accurate, if memory serve, it really blocks 500 or so sites.

One could use their browser history file to create a list of visited sites. I used my saved password export addon to get the urls of sites that I have Sue Baskerville accounts at.

I was just reminded of this while reading Dave Winer. Everyone wants to see stuff that resembles the stuff they've already seen. I want to see stuff I like that's different from what I'm already aware that I like.

I agree with Logical. StumbleUpon is an excellent approximation of this, if you set everything correctly.
