I really dislike it when someone says "It's good to see you taking an interest in your health." It's such a presumptive and condescending thing to say to a person.

Unless someone you know well has been chronically neglecting their health, this sentence just shouldn't exist.

I would say unless you are that person or that person's physician, their health is none of your business and your feelings about it are irrelevant. Also, the idea of assuming that because a person appears to be unhealthy, they clearly don't have an interest in their health is absurd. I'd venture to say that most people have an interest in their health. But we don't know if a person is afraid to ask for help, doesn't know where to start, is in a situation where they can't do anything about it, etc. So for a person to say such a thing at any point in time would be rude as hell.

Also, we don't know what is or isn't healthy for that person. Dunno. It's just another way people find to judge others I suppose.

Hear hear. The flip side is true, as well - just because a person looks one way doesn't mean they ARE taking an interest in their health. Or that they are healthy. I'm sure folks would make an assumption about my health based on my appearance, but they wouldn't be able to guess at least two of the chronic health problems I have because they're invisible and not associated with weight.

I guess it would be in bad form to respond with "And it is good to see you maintaining your status as a rude asshole", right?
- Corinne L
I would totally support this response. :D
