I agree, distractions are the worst. Although I am from the UK, I did find your reference to a hit reality TV show refreshing (such a nice change of pace for a business blog)
I must admit that the biggest way I have avoided distractions is by setting very clear boundaries for those I live with. By spelling out exactly when you will be working, or notifying someone in advance that you are taking a call at 7:30pm can make a world of difference to maintaining a positive balance between work and life.
I have had to learn the hard way about that as I now go to university and live in university halls. Chaotic, but a lot of fun! :)"
