Please excuse my rant: Apparently my company removed me from the payroll & canceled my health insurance *BEFORE* asking me to do work during Mary Carmen's FF party & continuing into the month of August. So not only did I do stupid work while with her, but I will not be paid for it. Oh, and I have no health coverage right now. AWESOME.

It can be fixed, I can get COBRA retroactively, and the pay was not enough to fight over, but I am NEVER, EVER speaking to anyone from my company - sorry, EX company - again. If they need more work done, tough shit.

Ouch

It's nothing that a private Battlestar Galactica marathon & deleting all the source files for the new catalog won't fix.
- Lo
crap. sorry you're getting this in your life right now.

Just a quick opinion, don't destroy the leverage you still have just for spite. Maybe it hasn't played completely out yet. Also, I am very sorry you find yourself in this situation. Take care while not insured, please.

i spent 5+ years uninsured while needing heart meds and CPAP. it's not comfortable but it is doable. hopefully you're not without for that long. *positive thoughts plus*

Unfortunately I cannot go without health insurance, since I declared bankruptcy in 2005. It's way too risky. But I will do the retroactive COBRA thing, it'll be fine. Mostly I'm just annoyed at the unfathomable douchiness of my boss. It's not a surprise, but damn.

I wouldn't delete those files. It seems to me that generally speaking while you are employed by someone the work you do they own. But IF they had you do that work while unemployed, you own the work, and if they use it without paying you ya might have a pretty solid legal leg to stand on. At the very least the BBB should be informed.

Sorry to hear the suckitude didn't end peacefully. Good luck moving forward or getting back at them, whichever is better for you.

It did occur to me that I'm legally in the right, but my boss has brought MANY lawsuits before, is vindictive, compassionless, dangerous, and has counsel & way more money than I. I doubt I have the resources to pursue an out-of-state lawsuit. So I'm hesitant to cause a ruckus over ~$100 worth of work. And most of the agreements that have been violated were verbal; he's very reluctant to put anything in writing - with good reason.

I would still at the very least contact the BBB

Maybe I will once I've found a new job. The sad reality is that this guy is in a position to sabotage my attempts to find new employment, and I'm not wild about that. I've put a LOT of effort into making him think that I actually like him & it seems stupid to throw that away now, particularly given how much I've sacrificed in the last year to stay on good terms.

When it comes to the BBB, though, this would really be the tip of the iceberg... I've seen him lie to & screw over so many people. There was one customer where I wanted to warn them not to do business with us, and would have if it didn't mean risking my job/paying rent.
