"Your analysis is very wide of the mark. History is littered with big companies that had scale but were too inflexible to compete. The co-op used to be massive compared to its upstart competition, not so any more. Tesco, Asda and the rest all out competed it. Apple is bigger now than IBM. Small companies can compete on the free market because without the (dead weight costs of taxation and regulation imposed on them from the state) they can be more innovative, flexible and responsive. It is not the 1950s, rapid technological change favours the small and flexible over the large and inflexible more now than ever. "True but the returns from a company and the returns from land are different. When you take a return from land no one benefits except you. When you swap a company for land you have swapped legitimate returns from innovation and productivity for rent seeking. You are betting that the government and central bank will crank up inflation via mortgage lending and you are hoping others make investments around your land. You are also betting that the government will keep taxes high on incomes, sales, corporations, inheritance so they can be low on capital gains on land. It is impossible to make money from land without making the poor poorer. The poor suffer higher rents and receive no capital gains on property to offset their taxes. Taxes pay for all kinds of government expenditure that raises land prices." - Adrian
