"Ms. Lagarde looked him in the eye. “The best way for the banking sector to say thank you would be to actually have, you know, good financing of the economy, sensible compensation systems in place and reinforcement of their capital,” she replied, to a burst of applause"

"Electric supercars have been hitting some crazy speeds recently, but this is on another level. The Black Current is a Volkswagen Beetle reborn as an electric drag racer. It hits 135mph and demolishes the quarter-mile straight in 9.51 seconds. What's more, it does it quietly -- all you can hear is the delicious screech of sticky rubber. Plug into the video after the break for a taste of what it's like behind the wheel. And can someone please explain why that other car on the left even bothered to turn up?"

"On Wednesday, just minutes after Harper announced his new cabinet and wrapped up a news conference, the PMO sent out a release announcing that "three outstanding Canadians" were being appointed to the Senate. Former cabinet minister and Quebec MP Josee Verner was named, along with two former senators who resigned in order to run -- unsuccessfully -- for seats in commons, Fabian Manning and Larry Smith. The news release also quoted Harper as saying "our government will continue to push for a more democratic, accountable and effective Senate." Later that day, Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall, a supporter of the prime minister, came out and said the appointments actually do the opposite."

"The Toronto District School Board and AMP Solar Group Inc. have teamed up to install solar panels on hundreds of school rooftops in a deal that could be worth $1.1 billion in green electricity generation over 20 years. The TDSB said late Wednesday during a board meeting that it has signed a deal with AMP, which will build, install and maintain solar photovoltaic panels on as many as 450 school rooftops or 12 million square feet of roof space. The board said there is no cost to the TDSB and that AMP will be responsible for all project costs. The panels will go only on roofs that can support them, and in return the schools will get $120 million worth of roof repairs."

Is everyone on the big network shows negotiating new contracts or something? Seems like a lot of death, near death and possible death of the secondary/primary players on the season finales.
Twitter posts links here appear to have a weird mouse over that is somehow bit.ly related in addition to the FF mouse over. Is this new or has it been around for a long time.
I ordered a 3rd party replacement battery for my wife's Dell laptop. The battery appears to be the correct battery but the laptop refuses to recognize saying "Cannot recognize battery" or similar on boot up. It then refuses to charge the battery.
Dell has been known to actively block 3rd party peripherals and parts in the past (I had a Dell printer that was actually a re-branded Lexmark, but if you tried to put the Lexmark ink cartridges in it, the printer wouldn't recognize them); so you might have to return the battery and bite the bullet on picking up an official Dell part.

"This is the most expensive photograph ever purchased. Art dealer Philippe Segalot purchased Cindy Sherman's "Untitled #96" (1981) for $3.89 million at a Christie's auction last week. I wonder how much Segalot will flip it for. "Cindy Sherman Print Sells For $3.9 Million At Auction, The Highest Ever For A Photograph" ("

"Overweight? Sorry, the doctor won’t see you. Some ob-gyn doctors in the U.S. are turning away women who are overweight, citing higher risks of complications in obese patients, according to the Sun Sentinel newspaper in Florida. “People don’t realize the risk we’re taking by taking care of these patients,” Miami doctor Albert Triana told the newspaper. “There’s more risk of something going wrong and more risk of getting sued. Everything is more complicated with an obese patient in GYN surgeries and in [pregnancies].”"

Is it even considered an issue? This is a picture of my daughter and son from her Facebook pictures that is publicly available but is connected to her profile and she probably thinks is available only to her friends. All Facebook pictures as far as I know are publicly available.

"The online auction will run through June 2, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a statement last week. Among about 60 items up for sale are personal documents such as driver's licenses, birth certificates and checks; academic transcripts; typewriters, and "more than 20,000 pages of written documents, including the original handwritten and typewritten versions" of Kaczynski's manifesto, authorities said."

I wouldn't have thought that diplomacy would be a skill this guy has or even a word he knows. I guess we will see.

"This photo, purportedly taken near Louisiana's Morganza Spillway, is simultaneously horrifying and kind of amusing. The snake just looks so purposeful, with its head raised like that. As though it's out running some errands, or on a morning commute. That said, I kind of hope somebody spots the pixels that prove this image is a fake. Because the idea of giant snakes hanging out alongside American highways gives my feet a terrible case of the crawling willies."

"Modelling of planet Gliese 581d shows it has the potential to be warm and wet enough to nurture Earth-like life, scientists have said. It orbits a red dwarf star called Gliese 581, located around 20 light years from Earth, which makes it one of our closest neighbours."

"Getting to the planet would still require a sci-fi breakthrough in travel for earthlings. A spaceship travelling close to light speed would take more than 20 years to get there, while our present rocket technology would take 300,000 years."
