Re: "How Do I Avoid Be Dragged Down By Difficult People?" - http://www.happiness-project.com/happine...
"Gretchen, I totally agree with what you are saying. We should never try to shift someone's paradigm to fit our own. Within your friendship groups and with your family members, there are going to be different opinions. And you know what, that's great. The great thing about the world we live in is that we get to learn from others about their perspective. So I think retrospectively that if we try to convert everyone to our paradigm, we actually miss valuable opportunities to learn more about the world." - Josh Chandler
Re: The Top 3 Skills You Need to Bounce Back From Anything - http://www.pickthebrain.com/blog...
"Bobbi, I really related to the first skill you spoke about, that we should accept life as it is. So many of us live in a bubble, failing to acknowledge the real truth of the matter. I am not one of these people. I say things as I see them and accept that you can only grow if you learn to live in the real world, rather then the fake world where everything is going great. I really liked your point about being social as well. Again this is something I can really relate to. If I didn't have such an amazing support network, I wouldn't have been able to overcome challenges as easily." - Josh Chandler

Re: How to Let Your Emotions Guide You to Happiness - http://www.pickthebrain.com/blog...
"I believe that negative emotions can create vast obstacles we need to overcome to succeed.  It's not simply a wish that they will go away, it's all about intent focus on achieving the goals you didn't think were achievable. I know that's how I overcome negative emotions such as fear and doubt." - Josh Chandler
Re: Are We All Altruistic? - http://communityethics.co.uk/are-we-...
"Justin, Thank you for bringing such an interesting perspective to this conversation. When you talk about wanting to directly help the individual more than the charity, I completely understand. In this world there are too many charities fighting to support the same cause, without consolidating or collaborating with fellow organisations. It's a real shame because there is a pool of talent that can be put to better use within a more long term environment where charitable work is more sustainable. I completely understand your point about wanting to ensure that people you help don't expect to be supported forever. What I find interesting when I look at the micro-finance model of Kiva is that through their platform, they are financially supporting individuals to set up business, but setting firm boundaries about expectancy for repayment of the loan. We need to see more charitable causes adopting a return on investment mindset, rather than continually looking for more and more money from..." - Josh Chandler

"The leap day was something I hadn't considered to be a moment of celebration either.  I think it reflects on the pace of life. We don't have time for our loved ones like we used to. So when leap days come along, it could be seen as an opportune moment to collect valuable memories." - Josh Chandler

"My thought is, if we focus on being present in the now how do we make progression to the future? I think this idea almost could lead people to stop for too long and enjoy the moment right now, but never progress to the future." - Josh Chandler

I never lose focus on what type of questions I ask, so I always keep a conversation moving forward closer towards taking action. Thank you again for taking the time to visit the Community Ethics blog. Hopefully I will see you back here soon so we can talk more." - Josh Chandler
"Brandon, I would guess that everyone is saying yes, because as you acknowledge, we are reaching a momentous turning point in the way our society is run. People are no longer accepting the status quo, in fact I truly believe the Occupy movement is helping to eradicate the principle that we somehow return to the way things were. It's simply irreversible.  Alone, I don't think Occupy will change the world. But it has planted a seed, one which will sprout many more movements like Occupy which will truly change the world as we know it. I am excited!" - Josh Chandler

"Bridget, I agree, distractions are the worst. Although I am from the UK, I did find your reference to a hit reality TV show refreshing (such a nice change of pace for a business blog) I must admit that the biggest way I have avoided distractions is by setting very clear boundaries for those I live with. By spelling out exactly when you will be working, or notifying someone in advance that you are taking a call at 7:30pm can make a world of difference to maintaining a positive balance between work and life. I have had to learn the hard way about that as I now go to university and live in university halls. Chaotic, but a lot of fun! :)" - Josh Chandler

Re: Business as a REAL agent for social change - http://www.theenvironmentsite.org/busines...
"Chris, Here's a few thoughts I have on your insightful article. Firstly, whilst I share the same view as you that businesses need to become 100x's more accountable to their social responsibility, I think we see that naysayers of the Occupy movement are really rallying against this idea of change. It's all about keeping things the way they have run. Excessive capitalism is eroding our trust in business, but at the same time just how much should we be asking of big businesses to help our society? Milton Friedman once said that "the social responsibility of business is to increase its profits". In some respects, this esteemed economist was contradicting the two main principles of running a business. A business cannot and should not be seen as a socially responsible entity when it gives huge bonuses to executives. Times have drastically changed since the time of Friedman. Secondly on Greece, I personally believe that the move to hold a referendum was an unnecessary time waster. Greece's..." - Josh Chandler
